Kurt Walkom

Bachelor of Commerce (Finance), Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Co-op)

Nanosatellites. Robot Soccer. Solar cars. Kurt was in awe when he saw these at a Summer School for high school students at UNSW. He later returned to UNSW to do a double bachelor's degree in Commerce (Finance) and Mechanical Engineering.

It wasn't just UNSW's excellent reputation and high rankings that appealed to Kurt. It was also Kensington campus's proximity to Sydney's best beaches and student projects like Sunswift, UNSW鈥檚 solar car team.

For his Engineering degree, Kurt had earned a co-op scholarship that included several work placements. During the internships, Kurt realised he didn't necessarily enjoy working as a mechanical engineer.

He decided to throw himself into alternative career paths. He used his broad Commerce degree as a springboard into different industries, ultimately landing in the entrepreneurial world of start-ups.

Since graduating, and with support from UNSW Founders, Kurt co-founded聽, a fintech start-up. Pearler is an online investing platform that makes it easy for Australians to invest in shares, compare investing strategies and achieve long-term financial goals such as financial independence.
