    The Industry Experience Program allows organisations to work with individual students as interns. These for credit internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience and build meaningful connections with business professionals.

    By participating in the day-to-day operations of your organisation, students can apply their academic knowledge in real world settings while making valuable contributions to your business.

    About the students

    • We highly value our relationships with industry partners and ensure that students have undergone a thorough selection process before entering the course.
    • Students apply directly to participating organisations, allowing you to select candidates for interviews and ultimately extend internship offers to the most suitable individuals.
    • Students come from varied academic backgrounds, including accounting, banking and finance, information systems, actuarial studies, marketing, and economics.
    • The course is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Throughout the Industry Experience Program, students will attend workshops and receive academic support to maximise their learning experience. 

    About the host organisations

    • Our host companies range from local enterprises and SMEs to large multinational corporations, all seeking to engage talented students.
    • Participating host companies in this program are either sourced by Career Accelerator or self-sourced by students.
    • We’re looking for industry partners who can either provide an in-person internship or an authentic and purposeful virtual internship.
    • Opportunities are advertised to eligible students on the UNSW Business School job board, giving host companies a direct platform to promote their internship opportunities to our students free of charge.

    Activity requirements

    • Provide students with approx. 120 hours of work experience over 10 weeks.
    • The internship must be of genuine value to the student, allowing them to implement their theoretical knowledge and gain employability skills.
    • We encourage organisations to offer paid internships.  
    The COMM2222 Industry Experience Program is yet another fabulously run program by the Career Accelerator Team in the UNSW Business School. The process to get involved was made easy with templates, placement management systems ready to go and really responsive staff if I needed any help. I was overwhelmed with the selection of talented students who applied for my industry project – they were all motivated and well prepared for the engagement. FDM Group had a great experience hosting a virtual student in 2020, and plan to do so again in 2021.

    As an industry partner, you will present a real business challenge for students to tackle, focusing on emerging technologies, digitisation, sustainability, and innovation for the future workforce.

    Delivered through a hybrid approach, this program facilitates collaboration between student teams and company representatives, allowing for virtual meetings that enhance engagement and problem-solving.

    By participating, you not only contribute to students’ career development but also gain fresh insights and innovative solutions for your business.

    About the students

    • The course is available to undergraduate and postgraduate business students from various disciplines including accounting, banking & finance, information systems, actuarial studies, economics and marketing.

    About the host organisations

    • Our industry partners are well established in their respective industries and are organisations where the impacts of technology, artificial intelligence, and globalisation are expected to significantly shape their future workforce and business practices.
    • Organisations can be based anywhere in the world, reflecting the global nature of today’s business environment.
    • Industry partners host multiple groups of students (up to 35 students in a class) over a 10-week period to work on a genuine business project focusing on the future of work.
    • At least two mentors are required to meet with the student teams to provide information and feedback to guide their progress.

    Activity requirements

    • Design a project brief in consultation with Career Accelerator.
    • Provide a minimum of two company representatives who commit to regular online meetings with their student groups throughout the 10-week term.
  • Suitable for the start-up community

    Partnering with the Enterprise Skills course offers startups a unique opportunity to engage with talented postgraduate business students eager for hands-on, real-world experience.

    By collaborating on this course, startups can gain fresh perspectives and innovative ideas while benefiting from thorough market research, competitor analysis, strategy planning and additional support.

    This partnership not only helps students apply their theoretical knowledge to real business challenges but also fosters a pipeline of skilled professionals who have a passion for the startup ecosystem.

    About the students

    • The participating postgraduate students will come from varied disciplines including accounting, banking & finance, information systems, actuarial studies, marketing and economics.
    • Often students have some prior working experience in Australia or overseas.

    About the host organisations

    • Industry partners are local start-up incubators, start-ups and SMEs seeking to host and mentor small groups of postgraduate students (up to 5 students per team).
    • Industry partners provide an authentic and purposeful project that can be completed over a 10-week term.
    • Students and their allocated mentor will work together on company premises one day per week.

    Activity requirements

    • Provide the students with 70 hours of in person work experience over a 10-week term.
    • The placement should offer genuine value, enabling students to apply their theoretical knowledge and develop employability skills.
    • The allocated mentor is required to meet with their student team at least once a week for a minimum of 30 minutes to provide guidance and feedback.
    • Complete a performance appraisal at the end of the placement to assess student progress and contributions.
    We have had two groups of students interns from COMM5008 Enterprise skills to help our startup perform competitor analysis, market analysis, and pricing strategy for our novel innovative products. The diverse skills of students and ability to grasp complex concepts was amazing and the quality of their works have been really impressive. Thanks to the students as well as well as coordinators and industry engagement officer for the internship program.

  • Suitable for large organisations in Sydney with 500+ employees

    The Industry Consulting Project offers some of our most ambitious and high achieving students first-hand experience and a glimpse into the world of consulting or strategy roles.

    In this course, students engage directly with clients on real-world business challenges, applying their strategic problem-solving skills to develop innovative solutions. They present these solutions to their client at the end of the term.

    This course not only enhances students’ professional skills but also provides valuable insights into the dynamics of the consulting industry, preparing them for future careers in this competitive field.

    About the students

    • The participating students are selected undergraduate students from the UNSW Business School.
    • They come from varied backgrounds including accounting, banking & finance, information systems, actuarial studies, marketing and economics.
    • Supported by an UNSW lecturer, these students will engage in design thinking, strategy development, and pitching as part of their academic growth in this course.
    • UNSW ensures they receive comprehensive training in professional workplace behaviour and communication.

    About the host organisations

    • The Industry Consulting Project is ideal for large, reputable organisations looking to enhance their recruitment strategies and connect with students early in the hiring process.
    • This course allows the organisation to assess a large pool of potential talent with minimal time and resource investment.
    • Our host organisations are actively seeking impactful solutions from student consulting teams, who will provide organisations with fresh perspectives on a business challenge.
    • This collaboration also empowers your staff to sharpen their mentoring skills and fostering a culture of professional development.

    Activity requirements

    • Define a suitable project in consultation with Career Accelerator.
    • Host a project kick-off session at the beginning of the course (approximately three hours).
    • Host a mid-term session for students to obtain additional information about the organisation (approximately one hour).
    • Host a final presentation session at the end of the course (approximately three hours).
    • Identify 6 company mentors, one for each student group (four-hour commitment over ten weeks plus attendance at the kick-off and presentation events).
  • Suitable for international organisations

    The Global Business Practicum, developed in partnership with our international industry partners, immerses students in the complexities of global business practices.

    This course offers a unique opportunity to companies in vibrant cities like Jakarta, Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong to partner with UNSW Business School.

    Students work as small consulting teams with their host organisation, tackling real business challenges and delivering actionable solutions and recommendations.

    The course spans 10 weeks, with the final two weeks spent in-country, providing an immersive experience in the local business environment.

    About the students

    • We highly value our relationships with industry partners and ensure that students have undergone a thorough selection process before entering the course.
    • Students come from varied academic backgrounds, including accounting, banking and finance, information systems, actuarial studies, marketing, and economics.
    • The program is open to domestic and international students and offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • UNSW ensures students receive comprehensive training on professional workplace behaviour and communication, overseas travel support, and cultural awareness prior to commencement with the host company.

    • Our industry partners are organisations within the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, seeking to connect with a pool of talented students while building a strong relationship with one of the region’s best business schools.
    • These companies are not only looking to expand their presence and brand in APAC but also to gain valuable global insights from our diverse and dynamic student cohort.

    Activity requirements

    • As an industry partner we ask you to provide students with a professional work environment and a positive learning experience by provide a genuine, exciting, and challenging project for the students to work on.
    • Industry partners can come from diverse sectors and can be local or global organisations located centrally in the host city.
    • Ability to host multiple teams of students (up to 35 students participate in the course).
    • Assign at least one mentor to be the main point of contact for the project.
    The UNSW Global Business School Practicum is something I look forward to each and every year, having now supported it for 4 consecutive years.
