Overview
In today鈥檚 competitive world, analytics plays a vital role in driving a successful business. A good manager is a good business analyst who translates data to the right solutions to satisfy business needs. However, being a business analyst certainly requires technical skills along with managerial skills. Those technical skills will assist the managers to analyse the insights of data. This course will help to learn those key skills required by a business analyst. Being the basis of a wide range of business analyses, financial statements are the commonly used performance measure to monitor and judge a firm鈥檚 performance relative to competitors. Consequently, this course will offer a guided knowledge to help judge what financial policies a firm should pursue and how to evaluate new business opportunities while investing.
Course content
The course is divided into two modules (each for 1 day) as follows:
Module 1 (Day 1):
- Fundamental knowledge on 鈥渁 framework for business analysis and valuation鈥.
- Explanation on different business analysis and valuation tools (e.g., Strategy Analysis, Financial analysis, Prospective analysis: Forecasting; Valuation theory and concepts; Valuation implementation).
聽Module 2 (Day 2):
- Business Analysis and Valuation Applications (Credit Analysis and distress prediction, mergers and acquisitions).
- Case Studies correspond to Business Analysis and Valuation (Decision Analytics focused).

Skills/competencies/knowledge that would be gained through this course:
- The participants will learn the fundamentals of the role of financial statements for business analysis and valuation.
- The participants will gain a profound skill in different business analysis and valuation tools and their applications inspired from real-life.

This introductory course is for anyone interested in managing a business in Defence, Government agencies, public and private sector organizations. This course is suitable for anyone faced with complex and dynamic decision problems in either public or private sector.

Dr Ripon K. Chakrabortty
Dr Ripon K. Chakrabortty (Member, IEEE) is the Deputy Director (acting) of the Capability Systems Centre (CSC) and lecturer on System Engineering & Project Management at the School of Engineering and Information Technology, the University of New South Wales (UNSW Australia), Canberra. He is also the program coordinator for Master of Decision Analytics & Master of Engineering Science programs in 91成人版抖音at ADFA. Dr Chakrabortty leads the optimisation and machine learning efforts in the Capability System Centre. He is currently the Group Leader of Cross-Disciplinary Optimisation Under Capability Context Research Team. He obtained his PhD from the 91成人版抖音at ADFA in 2017, while completed his MSc and BSc from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology on Industrial & Production Engineering in 2013 and 2009 respectively. As an educator and active researcher in his field, his focus is to deliver authentic teaching by pursuing鈥痳eal-life and practical knowledge to diversified students. Inarguably, his research鈥痠nvolvement in the discipline of 'Decision Analytics', 'Applied Operations Research', 'Systems Engineering & Project Management', 'Industry 4.O' aids him to expose knowledge gaps in the body of knowledge. Whilst, his main role as an educator has been to augment鈥痶he 'critical thinking skill' among students to bridge those gaps. He along with his team members have been making a good impact on applying different optimisation principles in artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, system engineering, project management and computer science domain. Such diversified research experience had made him successful in securing many big research grants. As a chief investigator, he has secured more than 2.5 million Australian dollars鈥 worth of research grant, while the apportioned amount to his credit is more than 1.1 million dollars. All his research grants have been from the Australian Defence Force (ADF).聽
