Unintended harms algorithmic decision-making systems cause, with a focus on the public sector.

Maria is a current PhD candidate at the School of Information Systems and Technology Management. She comes from a background in education having taught in Dubai for eight years. After pursuing postgraduate degrees, she became interested in attaining further research skills to advance her knowledge and experience in conducting high quality research.

Education Qualification

PhD - in progress, MPhil - UNSW School of Management focussed on the strategies Australian NGOs implemented to address issues related to labour working conditions in supply chains, Masters of Strategic Human Resource Management - University of Wollongong,  Bachelors in Business Computing - University of Notre Dame.

Research area

Maria is currently researching the unintended harms algorithmic decision-making systems cause, with a focus on the public sector.

Research interest

Maria is interested in understanding the power structures involved in using the digital in our current day and age. She wants to examine how and why harms occur and what can be done to address them.
