Mofang Yuan is a PhD candidate in Musicology and Ethnomusicology at the School of the Arts and Media, University of New South Wales. She is a recipient of the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship. Her doctoral research focuses on the courting and wedding songs of the Miao (Hmong) ethnolinguistic minority group in western Hunan province, China. This study employs ethnographic and musicological research methods, including archival research, participant observation, interviews, and music analysis. Her doctoral proposal was evaluated as excellent by the review panel. In addition to her doctoral work, she serves as a Research Assistant, Research Officer, Social Club Facilitator, and is the Founder and President of the UNSW Singing Society.
