Tierney Marey is a doctoral candidate in the UNSW School of Social Sciences and Manager of Student Experience in UNSW Arts, Design and Architecture.

Tierney is a praxis-based professional, specialising in equity in higher education and youth organisations, and a qualitative researcher with particular interest in embodiment and creative, queer, and intersectional feminist methods.

Her person-centred approach draws on her professional and research background, alongside her lived experience. Tierney has published and presented in areas such as LGBTQIA+ inclusion and identity, equity, queering research methods, and inclusive education.

In 2022 she was awarded a 30 under 30 award from Out for Australia and the UNSW Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture’s Dean’s Award for Inclusion.

Tierney's qualitative research investigates the embodiment of equity in Australian higher education. She draws on intersectional feminist, affect, and queer studies to critically consider how equity work is felt through, and shaped by, equity practitioner's bodies. Tierney uses creative and arts-based methods and takes an exploratory and intersectional approach to research.
