About the speaker
Professor Jeff D. Williamson, MD, MHS, is a renowned geriatrician and clinical trialist visiting the University of New South Wales from the USA. His research focuses on understanding the relationship between chronic diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, and the preservation of cognitive and physical function in aging adults. Prof. Williamson is also involved in developing research methods that include older persons in clinical trials.
Currently, Prof. Williamson is a part of the leadership team for four nationwide research studies in the USA. These studies are being funded by the prestigious National Institutes of Health and include SPRINT-MIND, PREVENTABLE, US POINTER, and Dementia-CARE studies. Collectively, his research studies have involved more than 40,000 adults over the age of 65 and 15,000 persons over the age of 75.
