We are very proud to announce that our PhD student Yudhi Bunjamin has won the Bernhard Neumann Prize.Â
Yudhi was presented with the prize at the conference dinner of the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Australian Mathematical Society last night at the MCG. He is a joint winner of the award, with Trang Nguyen from the University of South Australia.
The B.H. Neumann Prize is awarded for the most outstanding talk delivered by a student at the Meeting. Yudhi presented a talk to the conference on Tuesday, Equity considerations and design of mathematics outreach to schools.
Yudhi discussed his outreach efforts over the past year in the UNSW School of Mathematics and Statistics, which encompassed several events including regional trips, on-campus recruitment events and AMSI's CHOOSEMATHS Day at UTS.
He has worked tirelessly to design interactive maths workshops which promote mathematical thinking, with consideration to issues of equity, mathematical level, cultural sensitivity and accessibility. Yudhi has also trained and assisted others to run the workshops for our events.Â
Yudhi worked closely with Diana Combe, Michael Denes, Aditya Ganguly, Manzoor Khan and Aldhytha Karina Sari to develop and run the workshops.
A very big congratulations to Yudhi for this very well-deserved acknowledgement of his wonderful outreach efforts!Â
