Pavel Krivitsky wins 2024 UNSW Science Staff Impact Award
The Senior Lecturer from the School of Mathematics and Statistics was recognised for outstanding fundamental research.

Congratulations to Dr Pavel Krivitsky who has received a 2024 UNSW Science Staff Impact Award.
A Senior Lecturer in Statistics at UNSW Sydney's School of Mathematics and Statistics, Dr Krivitsky won theÌýMid-Career Impact Award for Fundamental Research.Ìý
His award was conferred by Professor Belinda Ferrari, Science Associate Dean of Research, at the Faculty's End of Year Celebration and Staff Awards on 26 November.
Dr Krivitsky was recognised for "his pioneering contributions to network analysis methodologies and software tools, significantly advancing statistical modeling and inference in complex networks, and maintaining widely used CRAN packages that support extensive research applications", said Professor Ferrari.
"In September 2024 alone, Pavel's nine packages were downloaded more than 37,000 times", she said.Ìý

Professor Jake Olivier, Head of the Department of Statistics at the SchoolÌýof Mathematics and Statistics,Ìýcommended Dr Krivitsky on his achievement.
"This is a well-deserved honour for Pavel", Professor Olivier said. "He has worked diligently for many years on improving how network data is analysed while providing tools for them to be implemented. Congrats, Pavel!"
Dr Krivitsky joined the School as a Lecturer in 2019 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer the following year.Ìý
His research focuses on developing methods and models to analyse complex network data and processes, with applications in epidemiology and the social sciences. He is particularly interested in unusual or indirectly observed or sampled network data.Ìý
Dr Krivitsky's work has a significant computational component, and the R packages he has created and maintained on CRAN have been adopted extensively.Ìý
In 2019, he was honoured with two prestigious awards from the International Network for Social Network Analysis. He received The Freeman Award for his significant contributions to the scientific study of social structure as an early career researcher. Additionally, as part of a seven-member team, Dr Krivitsky was awarded The William D. Richards, Jr. Software Award, which recognises individuals who have developed publicly available social network analysis software, crucial for the study of social networks.
