This work, led by ICFHS researcher Dr Jialing Lin, in collaboration with colleagues including Professor Michael Kidd AO, Dr Shona Bates, Associate Professor Luke Allen, Associate Professor Michael Wright, Professor Limin Mao, Dr Rafal Chomik, and Dr Chris Dietz, was published in BMC Primary Care.

The study found that some groups of people are less likely to enrol in patient enrolment programs in primary care, including men, immigrants, people living in big cities, those with lower incomes, and individuals with certain health conditions. Since the benefits of patient enrolment in primary care can include improved continuity and coordination of care, it is important to address these barriers to ensure equitable access and that everyone benefits from a stronger primary care system.
