Parental substance use in the perinatal period and child development: Bringing together the evidence from longitudinal studies and systematic reviews
This seminar will overview the latest findings on perinatal substance use and its impacts on children. It will focus on evidence from longitudinal cohort studies of families in Australia and systematic reviews of the research internationally.
Associate Professor Delyse Hutchinson is a National Health and Medical Research Council Research Leadership Fellow at the Centre of Social and Early Emotional Development, Deakin University. Her primary research interest is understanding the developmental origins of mental and behavioural disorders. She also works as a Clinical Psychologist specialising in pregnancy, postnatal adjustment, child development, and the treatment of mental health and behavioural disorders. She has a particular interest in understanding the causes and consequences of alcohol and other substance use exposure on development using longitudinal cohort studies in Australia and internationally.
