Pact for Impact
Making a difference, together.
Collaboration is at the heart of making impact, and at the heart of UNSW Science.
The term 鈥榠mpact鈥 is abstract and misunderstood. We all share the challenge of being able to define our impact and its real-world meaning, whether we represent government departments, academic organisations, corporate Australia or broader industry groups.
Introducing the Pact for Impact - an Australian-first collective commitment to define and measure the impact we collectively make through science. Led by UNSW鈥檚 faculty of Science and co-created by partners, the Pact for Impact demonstrates the commitment of UNSW Science and its partners to improving the world we live in through science.
We鈥檝e seen first-hand that partnerships between academic and corporate Australia are critical to the understanding of science as the solution to the world鈥檚 most important issues. Harnessing our spirit of collaboration and dedication to the pursuit of excellence, now is the time to work together to drive societal, economic and environmental benefits through science.鈥

Measuring the impact of our work
UNSW Science is committed not only to having impact, but also measuring it. Our Impact Indicators visually demonstrate the tangible impact of science on the world around us through:
- Commercialisation - the distribution of scientific processes for use
- Sustainability and Development - alignment with the UN's SDGs
- Lives Changed - communities or individuals impacted by new scientific advancements or education
- Policy and Influence - knowledge transfer and exchange
- Scholarly Outputs - traditional method of measuring impact from an academic standpoint
