Assumed knowledge:聽The equivalent of a combined mark of at least 100 in HSC Mathematics and Mathematics Extension 1.

Corequisites:聽DPST1013 or MATH1131 or MATH1141 or MATH1151聽 (or successful completion of MATH1131/1141/1151 or聽DPST1013聽prior to enrolment)

Cycle of offering:聽Term 1, 2 & 3聽

MATH1081 is compulsory for students in Computer Science and Software Engineering and is optional for all other Engineering students. It is recommended for students in Electrical, Telecom, Photovoltaic & Solar and Computer Engineering as it will help them with their Computing courses. It is also compulsory for students enrolled in a Mathematics major or study plan (except Maths and Finance). In an Advanced Science program, MATH1081 should be included in the first year of study, but students in the basic Science program 3970 are advised to consider postponing MATH1081 until their second year, or to at least Term 2 or 3 of their first year.

Course description

MATH1081 covers areas of mathematics that are particularly relevant for computer science, and will help you develop your ability to think and write mathematically and logically.

The course covers topics on elementary set theory, number theory, logic, counting techniques, graph theory and algorithms.
