RESEARCH INTERESTS
Expertise in the mechanical behavior of a wide range of hard and soft materials, including metals, ceramics, intermetallics, polymers, composites, biomaterials, and biological tissues such as teeth, bones, and skin. Understanding how manufacturing processes affect material microstructures and the mechanisms of fracture, fatigue, crack propagation, creep, and deformation. Development of fracture mechanics and solid mechanics models for predicting the performance and lifetime of materials. Understanding the interaction of mechanics, materials, and biology in clinical applications of dentistry, dermatology, and surgery. Professor Kruzic has published over 200 technical articles in his field. Notable honors include receiving the prestigious CAREER award from the United States National Science Foundation in 2006, the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany in 2011, and the Brimacombe Medal from The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society (TMS) in 2021.听
