Scientia Professor Nigel Lovell
Nigel Lovell is currently a Scientia Professor and Head of the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, UNSW working in the areas of bionics, biomonitoring and physiological modelling.
Recently Scientia Professor Nigel Lovell has been named the inaugural Director of the newly formed Tyree Foundation Institute of Health Engineering (). He is responsible for delivering on the Institute鈥檚 vision, translating innovative, transformational, and cost-effective health and medical technologies to meet patient and clinician needs
His research and development work has covered areas of expertise ranging from web-enabling technologies, telehealth apps, biomedical instrumentation, biological signal processing and health data analytics, neural engineering and physiological modeling. His principal research interests have been focused in the application of appropriate technology in managing chronic disease and design of a implantable bionics including a bionic eye. He has published 700+ journal articles, books, chapters, patents, refereed proceedings and abstracts.
For 2017-2018 he was President of the听which is the world's largest member-based biomedical engineering professional organisation. He is a Fellow of seven learned academies throughout the world, has been awarded over $115 million in research, consultancy and infrastructure funding in his career, and supervised more than 110 PhD students in their research degrees.
