STUDENT'S ARTWORK

ARTIST STATEMENT

A-BẢO-T TIME (2023) is a video work made by collecting footage of my older brother from 2006 to the present (2023). The footage was edited together to create a cohesive experience loosely bound by aspects of my brother’s personality, in the form of behaviours and mannerisms that have endured throughout time. To many new viewers, the video work is an introduction to a character. I am interested in knowing what people think of my brother, as I have portrayed him, without understanding the history of him. It is impossible for me to imagine. Overall, the video work allowed me to evaluate my own understanding of my older brother. I have become aware of how easy it was to highlight his sense of humour, and as a result, the meaning of humour in our relationship. On a wider scale, I have become aware of how stable our personalities are as we age. In all of us, in some way, our childhood selves are vomiting out of the boot of a car.

ARTIST INTRODUCTION

My name is Alastair Ho. I am a third year Fine Arts / Psychology student.  I enjoy creating work from a humanist perspective, embracing the diversity of human experiences and the depth of understanding that we can pull from them. I enjoy inserting humour into works as much as possible, and value the process of being vulnerable and true in art. At the very least, I hope my work is fun for you to watch :)
