ARTIST STATEMENT

Error Rectified Error is a 3D animation I created to challenge myself as both an animator and a storyteller. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to create a character that could connect with my viewers on an emotional level. To do this, I represented what I believe to be the most pervasive human experience: failure. Everyone has tried their best and failed at some point in their life. It’s this shared experience I wanted to convey through the ironic choice of a robot as my main character—a robot being something we expect precision and perfection from. When that fails, it’s often chalked up to 'human error'; within my story, it’s the robot that is to blame. Its failure is its own responsibility, even if it tries its best. Choosing a robotic protagonist presented the challenge of making it endearing to my viewers. Without a face or voice, I relied on manipulating light and its physicality alone—a challenge I thoroughly enjoyed. I hope my viewers find enjoyment in my animation and feel a deep connection with my robot as it navigates a profoundly human experience.

ARTIST INTRODUCTION

My name is Patrick Montague, a third-year media arts student with a passion for animation. I find it thrilling to see stories, brands, and experiences come to life through the arts. I am particularly interested in character animation and storytelling. One of my major goals is to create and produce my own series and share it with others. However, I am confident that as long as I am challenged and animating, I will find true satisfaction in my work.
