ARTIST STATEMENT
A story of a girl who used to have a pet cat. She used to share many great times and memories with her pet featuring a bond that was so deep that she thought of the cat as her family. However, the cat dies of old age, and the girl cannot accept the cat's death so she decides to use technology to recreate a digital AI cat to keep spending time together. When the hologram of the digital cat breaks down, the only left in the room is the picture of the girl with her deceased cat. This short story shows when a person experiences a great loss, they could use modern technology as a way to escape from reality. However, they no longer care for the real world and real-life events and put themselves into a fake 鈥渇antasy land鈥. In this case, is the development of technology helping or harming humans?

ARTIST INTRODUCTION
My name is Shumeng, and some of my friends call me Emma. I am a master of design student with a great passion for animation and VFX. I didn鈥檛 come from a traditional art background, my undergraduate degree was in Finance but I have always had a great interest in superhero movies, which is where I was inspired to be in the animation and VFX field.
