What is the discipline of General Practice?Â
The discipline of General Practice leads the delivery of educational and research activities aimed at improving the care of people in primary and community healthcare settings.
The discipline contributes to the education of the next generation of doctors through the UNSW Doctor of Medicine program, conducts  primary and integrated care research, contributes to postgraduate teaching, supervises ILP/Honours and Higher Degree by Research students and works with professional organisations to build capacity in primary care research, education and continuous professional development.Â

The discipline of General Practice is home to the UNSW Academic General Practice Network, which is a network of general practitioners, general practice nurses, allied health professionals and health professionals with an interest in medical education and research in the primary and community settings. We are excited about the network and the opportunities that it brings for innovations in student learning, primary care research, and quality clinical practice.
The discipline works closely in its education and research activities with other disciplines in the School of Clinical Medicine, the International Centre for Future Health Systems, School of Population Health, other schools and centres in the Faculty of Medicine & Health and the rest of the university. The discipline also has strong linkages with professional organisations including the professional colleges, Primary Health Networks, and other departments of general practice across NSW and Australia.
