The Platypus Conservation Initiative (PCI) has established strong partnerships with many stakeholders, including the Taronga Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary, Australian Platypus Conservancy, catchment-scale management authorities, as well as state and federal agencies. These partnerships have included previously funded projects, including an ARC Linkage.

Successful collaborations have led to new research projects such as an Australian Research Council Linkage project, aiming to work on captive breeding of platypus as well as conservation management of wild populations. PCI has also been engaged in the rescue and future repatriation of platypuses from Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.

PCI is based at the Centre for Ecosystem Science and offers a multi-disciplinary research environment that delivers on excellent outcomes and high visibility.

Ongoing collaborations and research track record offers opportunities to leverage additional funds towards broadening the scope of this project as well as its relevance to developing a national conservation strategy not only for the platypus but also for eastern Australia鈥檚 freshwater ecosystems.
