The Microfluidics Laboratory is set up for flow characterisation and temperature measurement on the micro- to nano-scale. 

The range of equipment available includes: 

  • Inverted epifluorescent microscope with a computer controlled Z stage (100 nm step size) 
  • MicroPIV system (LaVision) 
  • Peltier cooled fluorescent camera 
  • Nanosight LM14, syringe pumps 
  • Various temperature and pressure sensors with data loggers 


The laboratory also has a state-of-the-art high speed thermal imaging system capable of resolving mK temperature differences with 5 micrometers spatial resolution at kHz speed. 

Micro devices are made using the extensive microfabrication clean room facilities at the UNSW Australia node of the .
