How can I accelerate my Master of Engineering Science?
We recognise the value your prior study and work experience has in your career journey. If you have worked in a relevant industry or have relevant previous study experience, you may be eligible to get this recognised and accelerate your degree. When applying, be sure to include certified copies of your academic transcripts and a CV outlining relevant work experience.
Depending on your application and your circumstances you will be offered one of the following accelerated program options:
48 Units of Credit
1 Year Program
Available if you hold a 4 yr Bachelor of Engineering degree from Australia or accredited under the Washington Accord. OR, a 4 yr Bachelor of Engineering degree not accredited under the Washington Accord that included a final year capstone/ research project, a project management course + 3yrs relevant work experience.*
60 Units of Credit
1.2 Year Program
Available if you choose to study Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology or Sustainable Systems, and you have completed a recognised undergraduate degree as listed below.*
72 Units of Credit
1.7 Year Program
Available if you hold a 4yr Bachelor of Engineering degree not accredited under the Washington Accord which includes a final year capstone design/research project and a project management course.*

* Your Bachelor of Engineering specialisation must be studied in a relevant (cognate) area of your Master of Engineering Science specialisation + you must have a 65% GPA.

You can ask for RPL to be assessed whilst submitting your application to study with us via Apply Online, a ‘checkbox’ will appear when inputting your qualifications.Ìý

If you didn’t apply for RPL when submitting your online application and now have accepted an offer or are a current student, you can seek transfer of credits by contacting the admissions team via this UNSW .

RPL will be determined by the UNSW Admissions Team (in consultation with the Program Director) on the basis of transcripts and any other supporting documents you provide (E.g. CV outlining work experience). You will be notified of your credit in your official letter of offer.Ìý
If further information is required you will be asked to provide a full course outline which must detail the topics covered, hours per week, assessment information, textbook or reading list, teaching mode etc.

The Master of Engineering is designed for students with a background in engineering who require accreditation to start working in a professional engineering role. Whilst, the Master of Engineering Science is designed for professional engineers who are looking to upskill, crosstrain or retrain, in a new or complementary area of engineering to take the next step in their career.Ìý
