Our award-winning Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine (BMed/MD) is a combined undergraduate/postgraduate degree. You'll enter the program as an undergraduate student and graduate with both a bachelor's degree and the Doctor of Medicine. 

Throughout your medical studies, you’ll learn the basic medical sciences in relation to the human life cycle, examine social/ethical/legal issues related to healthcare and build your clinical and communication skills. As you progress through the program, you'll gain increased clinical exposure in hospital placements. Your fourth year is dedicated to research, where you'll complete either an Independent Learning Project (ILP) or honours year. In your final two years (the MD portion of the program), you'll complete clinical placements in surgery, internal medicine, psychiatry, primary care, obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics. This is your opportunity to discover which specialities interest you and what medical path you want to pursue when you graduate.

Prepare for professional practice

Our medicine graduates go on to pursue diverse and rewarding careers in a wide range of roles across the medical industry. Further study and experience will allow you to specialise in a specific area of medicine, such as general practice, paediatrics, cardiology, oncology, general surgery, orthopaedics, pathology, radiology or psychiatry. If you choose not to work as a medical practitioner in a hospital or private practice, this degree will also prepare you for other career opportunities in medical research, health policy and medical education. 

Upon successful completion of the six-year program, you’ll be eligible to apply for provisional registration with the Medical Board of Australia. This will allow you to commence your one-year hospital internship following graduation, which is required to gain general registration as a doctor in Australia.

Our programs

  • You can study medicine in the following combined undergraduate/postgraduate degrees:

    °Õ³ó±ðÌý stream introduces undergraduate medical students to clinical AI research and coursework. This stream consists of an extended coursework honours program and a research project related to the specialisation. The research project may be undertaken within affiliated hospitals and research institutes/centres or other Schools within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. 

  • Gain research experience and enhance your career prospects with an honours degree. These programs are designed to connect your undergraduate study with supervised independent research. An honours degree also provides a pathway into further study, such as a Masters by Research or PhD. You can take honours as a standalone degree or as part of an embedded honours program.
