How to apply for UNSW Medicine
Your application to study medicine at UNSW is a multi-stage process. To begin your journey with us, you need to determine which applicant category you fit under.
Local applicants
You're a local applicant if you are:
- an Australian citizen
- an Australian permanent resident
- a New Zealand citizen
Local applicants are not able to apply as international students - this includes students who are citizens of countries other than Australia and New Zealand.
International applicants
You're an international applicant if you are:
- not聽an Australian citizen
- not聽a New Zealand citizen
- not聽an Australian permanent resident
Applicants who have Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency must apply as local applicants.

Our students come to us from many backgrounds and all walks of life. We offer a range of entry schemes including:
- Gateway Entry Scheme
- Lateral Entry Scheme
- Rural Entry Scheme
- Indigenous Entry Scheme
- Students from other medical schools
