Risk Universe

In the dynamic environment of UNSW, the concept of a "Risk Universe" provides a comprehensive framework for identifying, assessing, and managing diverse risks. This encompasses strategic risks, like shifts in funding or educational trends, with the potential to impact long-term goals. Operational risks, such as those affecting IT systems or compliance procedures, concern day-to-day functions.
Additionally, travel-related risks faced by faculty, staff, and students, including health and safety abroad or geopolitical tensions, are vital considerations within this universe. By addressing these risks proactively, we can safeguard our mission, ensure operational efficiency, and prioritise the well-being of our community members.
Strategic risk
Strategic Risk Management (SRM) identifies, assesses and manages risks and uncertainties, effected by internal and external events, scenarios and risks that could impede UNSW鈥檚 ability to achieve its strategic objectives. 聽Typically, these risks are unable to be mitigated in the short term due to the nature of risks, which are typically outside the direct control of UNSW, for example changes to government policy.
Operational risk
The identification, assessment and treatment of risk, provides the foundation for active risk management. 聽In addition, it highlights risks that are key contributors to the overall risk exposure of UNSW or the University Program Office (UPO).
Travel risk
UNSW has a duty of care to all staff and students travelling internationally on UNSW-related business.
If you are seeking approval to travel to a destination that is rated DFAT 3 or 4, or otherwise deemed to be a "High Risk" location by UNSW Risk, then you are required to complete a travel risk assessment for your trip and submit it in your PTA.
