Supporting UNSW Science Indigenous PhD candidates Â
The Faculty of Science is committed to improving Indigenous education opportunities and recognises that there may be impediments – financial or otherwise – that restrict Indigenous students from pursuing research pathways in science. As part of the university’s overall strategy, the faculty is dedicated to increasing the number of Indigenous students participating in higher education. We believe an increase in the engagement of non-Indigenous staff and students with Indigenous knowledge and culture will be of substantial benefit to the faculty at social, environmental, and educational levels.
The Faculty of Science offers an Indigenous PhD top-up scholarship of $8000 for Indigenous Australian students currently enrolled in a PhD program.Â
-
This scholarship is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in a PhD program offered by the Faculty of Science.Â
The Faculty of Science will work closely with Nura Gili, the university’s Indigenous Programs Unit, to assess candidates who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Candidates will be assessed on academic merit and their contributions (past, present, and ongoing) to society and their community.
