The Introductory Academic Program (IAP) is a mandatory program for Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS) recipients designed to help you transition into the Australian academic environment.

This program focuses on essential academic skills critical for your success at UNSW. Topics include:

  • comprehensive Academic English training, including written and oral communication skills
  • strategies for managing your studies
  • library skills workshops 
  • introduction to eLearning platforms.

The IAP includes participation in and the attendance at Orientation Week (O-Week) and the International Student Welcome.

English language assessment

Prepare to excel with our English diagnostic test and receive personalised feedback based on your results. Depending on your test results, you can receive further support from:

  • Workshops to enhance your language skills.
  • Online resources for improving at your own pace.
  • One-on-one consultations with the Academic Skills Team for targeted support.

Academic learning skills

Navigate the academic landscape with ease. This module covers:

  • Academic skills including writing and research.
  • Understanding assessment types and expectations.
  • Critical analysis and analytical thinking.
  • Referencing and academic writing, including mastering the art of proper citation and effective writing.
  • Delivering presentations with confidence.

Library and online learning tools
